Arecanut Tableware

Arecanut plateware

Typically organic waste is easier to manage through composting or biomethanation, however lignin is natural plastic and therefore does not decompose rapidly. The lignitious “covers” on bunches of arecanut flowers fall off from the trees as fruits emerge and ripen.

Due to its slow rate of decomposition, this is a nuisance for farmers.
This material is used for producing beautiful cutlery items, which is an excellent option to plastic or paper or Styrofoam disposable tableware. The tableware can thus be sustainably managed in the same way as the food waste from the party! After use these items can be thrown into a compost pit.

They may be slow to decompose, but they WILL decompose in a few weeks...unlike plastic or styrofoam which may stay in a landfill for hundreds of years.
